About Me

My Point of Experience

I'm Nicole Mattingly, M.A., SENG Model Parent Group Facilitator and Doctoral Student in Educational Psychology at the University of North Texas. I have been an Instructor and biochemical researcher at the University of Colorado, a PTA President, a Rehab Technician and Behavior Attendant at Craig Hospital, and I am the parent of two identified Gifted (2E) children.

I have a passion for gifted learners and want to educate parents and teachers about adaptations that help meet their needs. Thus, Point of Experience began.

In the past, I have developed and presented various Special Needs and Gifted educational programs for schools and districts near my home in Plano, Texas. Through Point of Experience, my passion is to bridge the gap between parents, practitioners, educators, and academics in order to support gifted learners.

My own journey includes a unique blend of perspectives and experiences on the challenges of developing curriculum, teaching, and raising gifted children. At UNT, my academic research is focused on the pragmatic application of academic research techniques to interventions targeting the social and emotional needs of gifted children, including acceleration. I'm also delving into the uncharted waters of enabling Parent Practitioners. I hope to use research to help academics and practitioners better understand ways that parents can effectively support gifted learners, while enabling parent advocacy guided by evidence-based best practices gifted education.

I'm a huge fan of outliers, and see systemic limitations as starting points for creative solutions. I'm eager to help others on their gifted journeys; and like Fred Rogers, I believe that “love” is an active noun, and that anyone who helps a child is a hero.
